H & M Lumber Company, locally known simply
as H & M, opened for business in January
1961 at their original location on Plaza
Street by long-time Helena-West Helena, Arkansas
residents Walter Morris, Sr., Lawson Hornor,
and Johnny Hornor. From it's inception,
H & M (H & M standing for Hornor
and Morris) has been a premiere hardware
and lumber source. By 1963, in order to compliment
the goods and services provided by the hardware
store and lumberyard, the company established
a concrete ready mix and concrete block manufacturing
business, providing a much needed construction
commodity to the Eastern Arkansas and the
Western Mississippi Delta area.

In order to focus on a greatly expanding
hardware and lumber business, H & M sold
the concrete manufacturing business by 1996
and moved to the much larger current location
in the H & M Plaza Shopping Center located
on Highway 49 Business. H & M also
became an Ace affiliate store in 1999, which
has allowed us to consistently provide our
customers the highest quality hardware products
at the lowest possible prices.

H & M continues to be a family run enterprise,
with Walter Morris, Jr. joining his father
in 1981. Walter, Jr. serves as the
company president, with Walter, Sr. serving
as Chairman. In 1998, H & M, responding
to the area's need for a sporting goods retailer,
added an outdoor clothing, footwear and sporting
goods department, establishing itself as
a prime source for quality outdoor gear in
the Helena-West Helena, Arkansas area.
